I'm about to turn 28, I'm 400+ pounds and I have several chronic health problems. It is time for a change and this is where I will blog about my journey for those who are on the same path that I am.
10 months since surgery: Starting Weight 475, current weight 237. Half the man I used to be.

YEAH YEAH YEAH!! if you’re gonna be vegetarian gotta do it right!!!!
apparently quinoa trend has made a shortage for the original producers of such grains. but i don’t think there’s a shortage of beans and lentils… which are my fav, along with the chia seeds.

I haven’t posted an update in awhile, mostly because my losses have slowed considerably. I am down 185 pounds from my starting weight. I struggle still with my own mental body image more than anything. I still feel like I’m the same size, even though of course I’m not. The very overweight guy mentality still lives in me. I am working on it though. I allowed myself to get rid of all my really big clothing (part of me was hanging on in case I got big again). I forced myself to fly again (something I had been terrified to do after a woman sitting next to me on my honeymoon made me apologize to her for my fatness). I still get embarrassed when people draw attention to it or when something I’m wearing (pants usually) don’t fit me correctly because my body is weird now, but I’m working towards (well tailored) solutions for that too.

So that’s the honest update… My mind is working on catching up with this rapid physical transformation. But when I was recently asked if I regretted doing the surgery, the answer was, and likely always will be, no.

Weigh In Day: Well it’s my monthly photo weigh in and I’m happy to say I can actually see a big difference in these photos. I usually see it but it normally seems like a small change to me. Illness paired with the gym resulted in a 13 pound loss this week. Which brings my estimated loss to 138 pounds and my confirmed loss to 113 pounds. It also puts me at 32% of my next goal of 40 by April. Thanks to all of you who have supported me on this journey, it’s made the world of difference.

Hit My Very First Goal

Well today I hit it…

100 confirmed pounds lost

Though I actually probably hit it awhile ago (My estimated preop weight was 475 but because scales dont go above 450 pounds, I was never quite sure) today I am at 350.

While I still have 150 left to go before I hit where I would like to be, being on the other side of 100 is huge for me, and that im here just a little under 3 months after my surgery is huge.

My losses had slowed considerably over the holidays (what with all the delicious junk laying around). So I made it a point to get back on track this week by going to the gym 4 times, cutting out all carbs (mostly anyway with the exception of salad and a few pop chips)  and eliminating flat diet soda entirely in favor of water and Minute Maid Just 15 juices.

The result was that I lost 11 pounds this week, which has me falling right at the aforementioned goals.

I’m not sure yet what my next goal is. I know my long term is 199 pounds (ideal weight for my height). I am dabbling with 40 pounds by April. But my biggest Non-Scale goal, is that I would like to feel comfortable wearing a tank top this summer in public. Not just at the beach (which I have done before) but just out and about. I also want to wear a pair of cute board shorts. Generally fat guy board shorts leave something to be desired.

Next week is photo day, so I will post my progress photo then for anyone interested.

Estimated Weight Loss: 125 pounds

Confirmed Weight Loss: 100 pounds

Time elapsed since Surgery: 2 months and 3 weeks
